Seit längerer Zeit mal wieder ein Eintrag hier in meinem Blog und der erste in 2011.

Ich möchte eine gerade fertiggestellte Arbeit von mir zeigen.
Es ist meine Interpretation des klassischen Schädelringes.
Trotz gemischter Gefühle gegenüber einem bis an die Kitschgrenze strapazierten Motives, ist der formale Wechsel zwischen glatten Flächen, Ornament und stark strukturiertem Relief ein wirklich spannendes Thema für ein Schmuckstück.
Interessanter Weise ergeben sich meiner Meinung nach wieder Bezüge zwischen der alten Vanitas-Symbolik und neueren gesellschaftlichen Entwicklungen.
Der Ring ist hohlgegossen. Er wurde in klassischer europäischer Manier mit Sticheln graviert und in Champlevé emailliert.

I want to show a recently finished work of mine.
It is my interpretation of a classical skull ring. Despite my somewhat mixed emotions towards an almost trite topic which tends to be kitschy, I found the formal aspects like the tension between the large polished shapes, ornament and heavily structured forms a really interesting matter for a piece of jewellery.
Most interestingly, I think lately there are connections again between the old Vanitas motive and contemporary social developments.
The silver jewel was cast hollow. It was engraved by hand using burins in the classical European manner and enamelled in Champlevé style.
I really like what you've done with the enamelling. Pretty tricky I imagine on such a complex surface.

AntwortenLöschenThe real trick part was the engraving. Keeping the cut steady is not so easy on those curved surfaces. The enamelling itself is a play of gum and counter enamelling.
